THE PYRAMIDS OF EGYPT: ORIGIN AND HISTORY
The Egyptian Pyramids were built more than 4000 years ago as graves or memorial sights of the pharaohs, who were demigods that took the throne by means of dynastic succession. However, pyramids are much more than that; they are also religious and scientific temples that demonstrate extraordinary understanding for the era they were erected in.
The pyramids are known as places where bodies are preserved and embalmed. This was done in such a way that the spirit cannot escape, proving that people believed that there was life after death and they prepared themselves for it according to the rules of “The Book of the Dead” and creating the pyramids. What’s more, the dead were deposited with garments and food to use in their next life.
There are various models of pyramids that still exist today: terraced, smooth-faced (Snefru), rhomboidal, and others with carved inscriptions. The first known pyramid is that of Zoser, king of the third dynasty. However, the first major complex funeral sight is that of Guiza Plane, which was built during the forth dynasty and was declared as one of the Seven Wonders of the World. The origins of the pyramids go beyond the times of Ancient Egypt; they are made of stone and have one or more chambers interconnected by passageways. On the other hand, there are so many questions as to the execution of the pyramids that will most likely always remain unanswered.
